4 Ways Emotions Cripple Sports Bettors

  1. Confirmation bias. This is the process of seeking out information, data, statistics, commentary that confirms an opinion or idea you already hold. If a favorite player or team is involved it is often easy to seek and believe information that supports their case to win as opposed to accept information that they may not.
  2. Recency bias. This is the fatal flaw of putting more weight on recent games than is necessary.
  3. Hindsight Bias – don’t be a Monday morning quarterback. Everything seems easier after it has happened. If you convince yourself “you knew that” you will never actually learn.
  4. Revenge betting – this is the idea of losing some moeny on Saturday and feeling like crap. Then you procede to try to win the money back betting NFL games on Sunday even if there are no excellent opportunities or edges.
